Popularity Content Plugins for Wordpress 2.6 Hack
Popularity content is a really useful plugin for Wordpress. It is used to display the most popular posts on your blog in quick links. Unfortunately, somewhere around Wordpress 2.5 it stopped working. I finally found a working model here at GuateWireless.org (link direct to plugin). I downloaded the mod and added the table script so instead of having to create the tables manually, the plugin will create them if they do not exists.
This is the mod I downloaded from GuateWireless, with the addition of the “Create Table if not Exist” script.

It seems like there is a lot of requests for this plugin. I noticed that Guatewireless has also added a new function that retrieves the last mosts most popular posts. The hack on this site does not have the new function… I would be up for continuing to support this plugin.
The original plugin from Alex king had instructions to set up a cron to update the database tables so your popularity ranking were always up to date. I’m not sure if wp_cache was included in WP When Alex made this plugin, but newer versions of WP have 2 builting flavors of a faux cron (hourly and daily).
I want to extend this plugin to include the new cron, and also wondering if it would be possible to somehow aggregate the most popular posts to a central location. It would be simple to add, but vulnerable to heavy spamming. Maybe a flagging system, or weighted system based on website traffic, popular posts, and visitor traffic.
I have contacted wordpress.org to either add a new plugin for popularity content 2.5+ or let us into the original popularity content plugin to maintain it. Currently if you download popularity contest plugin from the plugin directory it will not work.

The values don’t update after you change them, and you also have many links to popularity-contest.php

I just modded your script a bit; all calls to popularity-contest.php have been replaced by a call to your own script; wp_pop_cont_mod_rhi.php
